Raphael Vicenzi - Inspiration

I really like these images as even though the faces have been manipulated in some way or another, the images still look pleasantly dream-like to view, the artist hasn't made them appear to be creepy or provoke a negative reaction by changing the face but has kept the whole pretty theme used light colours (associated with good mood, summer, spring and more) which add to the positive, girly vibe within the image.

I would like to try and create something similar by cloning the face in a portrait using Photoshop once or twice or possibly more. I however might not stick to the positive them but perhaps try and create a new reaction by creating something that has connotations of a scary theme like dark colours, black eyes, blur, dark background and maybe props associated with horror like knives or candles. Although I do not often use Photoshop I could experiment with techniques.

These images reminded me of a face swap feature on a photo messenger app called Snap Chat. Due to the effects it creates not being very good, the face swaps are often very distorted and the results can be amusing or scary. Even though it doesn't always do what it is supposed to do (swap 2 peoples faces) it still creates an interesting reaction that you still enjoy seeing. I could perhaps try something similar by perhaps creating my own distorted face swaps and see what outcome I can achieve.

I like how unusual these images appear but also look extremely simple at the same time. I like the images in which the person appears to have multiple limbs as this is not commonly seen on the human form so is unusual and therefore exciting to see. I would be able to incorporate this in to my own work by perhaps creating multiple exposures in which the person moves limbs around for each exposure giving the appearance of having multiple limbs or I could take multiple portraits and cut out limbs in Photoshop and add them on to one portrait to give the same effect. I also quite like the bright background as it contrasts really well which I would like to incorporate also, I could use a backdrop or even use Photoshop to create my own background to contrast my portrait.

I found these pieces of work eye catching due to the severe distortion of the human form. They are collages formed from portraits. I like the idea of creating a completely new perspective/narrative of something and in this case they have created unusual, almost supernatural looking collages of a face using what I would imagine were stereotypically straight forward portrait shots before-hand. This has inspired me to want to create something. I would like to manipulate a portrait using Photoshop to create a new meaning to my original image. I would perhaps clone some facial features and move them around to create a new person almost. Something to trigger a reaction by making it look creepy or out of the ordinary.

These are the images I was inspired by:

As my Photoshop skills are not very advanced I wouldn't be able to do a lot of manipulation but I could probably create something quite similar to the collage where there are multiple eyes around the face by taking my own portrait and cloning the area of the eye and then using simple tools to make it look as realistic as possible.

I like how create these are as she has created a different meaning to objects. In the first one you imagine the spaghetti as being rain due to the umbrella sticker on the bowl underneath. In the second one the first thing that comes to mind is an egg when in actual fact it is an orange balloon in front of a white circular background and in the third one, due to the shadow looking like a rabbit you instantly associate the orange colour with a carrot and my mind was deceived as I thought the orange fruit was a carrot.

It is strange how our minds instantly put shapes and colours together so you see something that is not actually there. Although these images are very simple they hold a lot of meaning which makes them amusing and enjoyable to view.

I really liked these multiple exposures as I love the over exposed backgrounds which make the silhouette of the footballers stand out so you can see their features in detail but then the opacity in the middle of them is high so you can see right through them to the scene. These are my favourite kind of multiple exposures as I love the contrast. I also like how in these specific images he has made sure the scene fits in with the theme of football. I also like how he has got just the right composition in his location photos as they fit well being framed by the portraits.

I found this image by RebeccaNunu IuYan whilst browsing the 'photo montage' tag on the explore page and it caught my eye straight away due to the triangular shapes of all tones fitting together like a puzzle. I love how this is not just the same person cut in to shapes and put together as I have seen a lot of this, I like how even though it is different faces/clothing in each triangle they still all fit together as if it were just one person and looks  almost without any seams.

This is very creative way to create a surreal portrait. I also loved the description about how they were inspired by plastic surgery as this shows people being made to look completely different as an individual by adding other peoples facial features which is essentially what you get during plastic surgery.

I would like to try and create my own surreal portrait using this same idea but with a different twist.

David Drake - Behance

I came across these images whilst on the explore page of Behance and I was instantly drawn to them due to the bright pink neon lights in each image. As I am a fan of the band The 1975 (singer Matt Healy) that these images were taken for there singles that were released for their new album I already knew they had a purpose. All of the words/sentences in the images are song titles of their singles.

When I was viewing this images I instantly put word to image.

'NANA' - the living room in the image is a stereotypical house of an elderly woman with old fashioned furnishings which goes with the word 'Nana' and you wonder if this living room is the actual living room of the Nan to Matt Healy.

'LOVE ME' - The scene is a hospital which makes me think they are trying to get across 'love me no matter what problems I am facing at the minute'.

'The Sound' - This to me looks like a tunnel in the underground station so I thought of 'the sound of the underground' when I saw this image.

'UGH!' - This scene is a messy bedroom with cigarettes and alcohol strewn around the floor which makes me assume the person is having a bad time as the stereotypical "Ugh!" is what you say when you are frustrated/angry.

'Lost my head' - The image is of a roof top which I immediately associate with suicide and the fact that it says lost my 'head' it makes me feel they have become mentally unwell due to an emotionally tough time and have thought about suicide.

'THIS MUST BE MY DREAM' - The scene is a beach with nice blue sea and stereotypically when you think of a dream place you imagine it to be by the sea with nice scenery so I thought of this being the singers dream place to be.

'IF I BELIEVE YOU' - The image is of the inside of a church and I immediately think of religion so the word believe fits well with religion as you either believe or you don't.

These images have inspired me to want to put words with images but I'm not sure how I would go about doing it so I could set myself a challenge.

Jaimie Collet - Behance

I like the work of Jaimie Collet. I looked at the work on her Behance profile whilst looking at the multiple exposure tag and came across the multiple exposures that she created.

I liked how creative these are but so simply made. She just took a series of similar photos using props in some and put together 2 images to create one image. I like how although the photos are quite dull and not much is going on, the vibrancy of her hair paired with the props, in this case a skull, it is instantly eye catching and your eyes wander from the hair to the skull. I like these series of multiple exposures as I haven't come across many multiple exposures this simple, I usually find they are very busy looking which I dislike but these are very simplistic yet still have as much meaning as a busier multiple exposure.

I would like to create some similar multiple exposures to put on my online portfolio.
